Legend has it, Flagstaff's name came about when the first settlers of the community erected a pole constructed from a tall Ponderosa Pine and attached the flag to it to celebrate the Declaration of Independence Centennial in 1876 The famous Meteor Crater is just outside Flagstaff. It is illegal to hunt camels in Flagstaff. Flagstaff's Hotel Monte Vista is supposedly haunted. Apparently there are no famous people from Flagstaff.
