On the road to Albuquerque. Pretty long drive, but Derek rerouted all the power from life support to the Windstar's primary thrusters, and we made it into town around 8 PM. To amuse ourselves along the way, we invented a new driving game - "fat or not-fat". Here's how you play - as you catch up to a vehicle on the highway, you throw a dollar down and bet on whether the driver is fat - or not fat. Get it?
The Texas panhandle was rainy and windy, but the weather cleared as soon as we hit New Mexico.
Bowled at the Holiday Bowl. Very nice alley. Nicely maintained, nicely laid out, nice people, nice sign. What more could you ask for in a bowling alley? The good folks at the Holiday Bowl (7515 Lomas Boulevard Northeast) supported our cause and gave us a nice discount on bowling.
And how's the bowling going? Todd's maintaining a strong average, Derek's keeping steady, Matt's gaining ground, and Mike has officialy switched the nozzle from blow to suck.
For being one of the poorest states in the U.S., New Mexico has some pretty pricey hotels. We ended up choosing a Comfort Inn, due to it's proximity to the bowling alley. We should have been warned off by the staff's uncertainity of whether or not the rooms had high-speed internet access (they didn't), and their uncertainty about what the hell the internet actually was. We allowed ourselves to be suckered in by the fact that one of the rooms had a little side room with a table, perfect for some late night poker.
The table was perfect for poker. Unfortunately, the stained carpets, drapes and furniture failed to enhance the environment. The smell of urine and fabreze didn't help much either. In addition to the general unpleasantness of the rooms, we awoke to find out the water had been shut off. No showers, no toilets, no nothing. The hotel staff seemd to feel this was business as usual.
If you ever drive through Albuquerque, feel free to throw shit at the Comfort Suites, 900 Louisiana Blvd.
So on Tuesday AM four unshowered guys climbed back into the minivan and headed out to the Grand Canyon.
